Physical Therapy Exercises For Stroke Patients

A patient is often overwhelmed by the number of stroke rehab exercises especially after being in the acute hospital, inpatient rehab, and outpatient therapy clinic and coming home with multiple home exercise programs. The stroke survivor must rely on their therapist for exercise instruction so it is of utmost importance to have a therapist experienced in working with stroke victims.

Recent research, though, shows that the brain is amazingly resilient and capable of adapting after a stroke. This means that recovery is more possible than previously thought. Get here some physical therapy exercises for stroke patients.

Patients continued to improve up to one year after stroke, defying conventional wisdom that recovery occurs early and tops out at six months. In fact, even patients who started rehabilitation as late as six months after stroke were able to improve their walking.

When walking, always turn on the left side toward the cane. (If the left side is the stroke side, turn on the right side toward the cane.) Move slowly until you’re more sure of yourself. If you have trouble with balancing, use a quad (four-legged) cane.

  • Instructs in routine daily functions
  • Teaches safe ways to move
  • Sets up and teaches an exercise program

  1. It’s good to start this therapy from low intensity for the stroke patients. It’s obviously an effective but long process.
